Hello...any advice on the season or units to stay away from. This will be a backpack trip for a buddy and me. Obviously snow could be an issue. Would like to be away from the crowds.

I used to hunt the third season a LOT. There's no question that snow will be an issue depending on your elevation. I don't think I ever hunted that season without snow. A couple times we were pushing snow with our bumpers coming out from storms. Depending on the area and snow levels, you may spend some time trying to find the elk. Usually it takes quite a bit of snow to push them down, but as of late it seems lots more elk head down earlier just from pressure rather than snow.
