I like KUIU pants, and a merino base. Depending to the season I vary which pant.

I have migrated to insulation layers and a "waterproof / breathable" shell.
Dropping heavier soft shells on weight conscious hunts.

I just got my first pair of kuiu attacks yesterday, ordered another pair today. Loved everything about them.

For mid October in Wy I wear a First Lite merino base layer on bottom and top. My pants are either First Lite Kanabs or Kuiu Attack pants. Both work great for me. On top I usually just wear a fleece pullover on top of my base layer while moving. Sometimes I just wear the base layer on top. I tend to heat up quickly while moving so I can usually get by with wearing less clothing while moving.
Hope this helps

The FL Corrugate Guide pants are the most comfortable, high performance pant the I've worn. I've punished my current pair during training hikes for the past 2 months and they still perform flawlessly. Heads up though...they are better suited for colder weather. (temps averaged 28 degrees for the last month and I can easily wear these on a 3-5 mile training hike without any base layer underneath).

Kanabs have durability issues.

If you are on the move I agree, the Corrugates will be fine without extra layers. If you are sitting still, the wind goes right through them. I froze my butt off glassing last year at 45* temps because a breeze came up and I didn't have any long underwear underneath them. They are an impressive pant though and I've been very happy with them. The Kanab's are a bit quieter but I prefer the pocket layout of the Corrugates. Regarding durability, the Kanab's are not as durable, but I don't think they are intended to take the kind of abuse the Corrugates can take. For me, I own both and the environment when/where I hunt will determine which pair I wear.

I have the first gen Chugach jacket and pants. I use the jacket as my upper shell and carry the bottoms when I really expect things to be wet. By using my rain shell as my outer shell I don't need to carry two sets.
