This is my second CkyePod. I also own the Gen 2 double-pull and the MDT Mountain bipod (back when it was still branded MTN Gear). I primarily use these for hunting, and I have to say—the Gen 3 is a noticeable improvement over the Gen 2.
One feature worth calling out is the leg lock. The Gen 3 legs have a locking mechanism that helps prevent accidental deployment, which is a big plus for hunting and moving through brush or pulling out of pack. It’s a simple detail, but it makes the bipod better.
Yes, they’re different models, but the Gen 3 is obviously lighter. MDT also removed the pan feature, which I personally hardly ever used, and that clearly helps with weight savings? The leg diameters are smaller, and the knurling is excellent—grippy without being overly aggressive. The larger buttons are another nice upgrade.
I actually ordered some aftermarket knobs ahead of time, assuming I’d want them(on my gen 2), but once I got the bipod in hand I was pleasantly surprised by how good the factory buttons are. No need to swap them out.
I know this bipod is stupid expensive and definitely not for everyone, but I wanted to put it out there: there is a real difference with the Gen 3, and in my opinion, it’s the better version.
