I believe the ZR2 Colorado comes with some pretty high zoot suspension items, full real skid plates and rockers as well as the good tires and F+R lockers already mentioned. I don't think the extra $7500 is that far off given what it would cost to duplicate.

Thanks guys! I did about wear out the youtube links to the Colorado diesel, ha ha! I even looked at many of the Pros & Cons on the videos as well. I did research the motor put out by Isuzu & it has been around a long time with great reviews on being reliable & tough outside the states!

dotman, I hear ya on the price differences & what may or may not be available to me! Thanks a bunch for looking into it!

Flyinsquirel, yes not too far off but I generally do all my own stuff to my rigs from tires & wheels to lifts to tuners, shocks, heck you name it! Most money is in the labor these days! (grin) I am fortunate to have access to my sons shop, he has it all there for about anything I would need including the machine for installing tires on rims & a balancing machine. I'm pretty lucky, plus I love doing it. (grin)

Anyone know how long the diesel can aprox sit at idle before a warning light comes on in this Colorado? I see it mentioned on youtube but it doesn't say if it's 15 min or two hours? Thanks!

If you get it tuned and deleted you can idle as long as you want. These newer diesels don't like to idle due to the emissions crap on them.

Tim, thanks! I didn't realize that, that's a relief! Yes, I was going to do the Tuner & Exhaust change, I can install this myself as well. My Son & I also did this to his 2008 Duramax diesel. That sucker is a rocket! The Colorado would not be able to pump those HP or Torque but that smaller diesel could be played with to do much better than stock, this is the stuff we like doing! (grin) Don't need a Full Size truck at this stage of my life, need 4 door for hunting buddies to an extent. I'm 5'-7" 150# so these mid sized rigs are perfect for me! Still doing research!! You guys are great, thank all of you for helping out!

Jeff, LOL, works for me! (grin)

my wife thinks i should get a new truck to replace my 2006 4x4 tacoma.

if i stayed with a smaller truck, Duramax Colorado Zr2 or the new Tacoma. i would test drive one to the other test drive. i did NOT know the ZR2 gets less MPG. which is the big selling point for me. however, i dont know how much DEX cost and to me math-wise..you do need to work that into the math..+ i know Diesel rigs seem to cost more in the maintenance dept as well. but i do love the look of the truck.

full size? my head explodes..i like them all. Dodge ECODiesel, F150 with the ECOboost..and the new GMC Sierra.. that day will be a CRAZY test drive day. i love how a third hunt partner can fit. my friends are heavy packers.
good luck choosing PAUL. hate to be in your shoes.

i am shocked how robust my 2006 tacoma is. bought it used. just changed all the gear oil this weekend..replaced the headlights (fogged bad), and all the air cleaners (wildfire soot)..i am ready to drive it across the country to kill some Crane. and deer. that truck makes it hard to want another..since i HATE car payments.

If you are referring to Diesel Exhaust Fluid (Blue Def); I have 20k Miles on my truck and I have added 3 gallons. Almost non existent cost. Also, you add right at your gas tank unlike the big ones

i'm in the exact same boat...
2006 TRD tacoma with like 150k?
I might go drive a new tacoma just to hope I don't like it and I can keep driving this one ;)

These days with regular maintenance 140,000 isn't that much. Rigs go much further than that! I have in the 135,000 or so & my Tacoma has tons of life, I'm just getting bored with it more than anything! I need a new Toy to fiddle with! (grin)

I agree, I traded my 2011 GMC in with 148k miles and it was in excellent condition with many miles of life left.

As much as people complain about new vehicles being junk, vehicles are lasting much much longer then just 20 years ago.

Something not mentioned is the power band difference from the Colorado diesel & Tacomas. They have stock 180 HP but can get close to 250 HP with a little mod! It's Torque is 369 stock & with mod is around 450 & Tacoma is 265 -- Too, towing for the Z71 is 7600 lb stock & Tacoma is 3500 lb -- Those stats intrigue me as well!

Yeah that's late 90's 3/4 ton diesel hp/torque numbers.

Yes, but this is no 3/4 ton! Those numbers are pretty darned good for its class. Tacoma is in it's class, compare those! (grin) Both are very closely priced. Just things I'm thinking on!

On a 2015 F350 Powerstroke you add DEF at a cap adjacent to the fuel cap. Go to a truck stop and buy it at the pump where the big rigs fuel.....it is about 1/2 the price in bulk with no DEF container to discard. It obviously uses more than the Colorado but the DEF cost is still of little consequence over a year, probably averaging under $30 in my case for 20,000 miles of driving over half carrying a cabover camper.
