I should be receiving my 2015 MR Metcalf from Camofire tonight and I need some belt pouches.

Any reason I should order the MR ones over any of the widely available and different sized molle pouches available on eBay or amazon?

Here are some I found in a quick search:

I ordered a Metcalf from camofire as well. I got it a couple days ago. It seems to be a bomber pack. Definitely an upgrade for me. Interested in any input as well. The MR ones seem to be pretty small?

Other than quality of construction, no. The MR belt pouches are very small so I can see where you'd be shopping elsewhere though.

Kuiu has some for 7.50 right now on sale, real cheap, never used theirs, but I don't need any, but seems like a darn good price.

The MR ones are tiny. I didn't like them back when I had an MR pack. I was able to use a kuiu one on an MR belt. It slides over the belt (doesn't use molle) and stays put pretty well. The kuiu one is only slightly bigger. Kuiu has the pro version now which are 500D. They kuiu ones are cheap. $10 full price but can be obtained on sales for less.

A few years ago I ordered two generic belt pouches from amazon and had two, completely opposite experiences.

The first, by Voodoo Tactical, was perfectly acceptable: a durable, usable pouch. Had it on a bikini frame for years and is on my stone glacier right now. I don't see any reason to replace it.

The second, by Northstar Tactical, was a design failure. It had four vertical rows of webbing with 'heavy duty snaps' on the back, so in theory the pouch would attach to molle webbing without need for malice clips (hope that makes sense). But in reality, those four rows were misaligned with standard molle webbing, so in fact it was impossible to attach to molle matrix webbing. Also, the molle webbing on the back had only one horizontal strip (plus the four vertical), which means that, even if the vertical webbing were aligned properly, the pouch would hang loosely from your pack/pals matrix webbing. (You usually need at least two horizontal molle strips for the attachment to be secure). So, the pouch did not attach securely vertically *or* horizontally. One got the sense that the pouch was made by people who never use these sorts of things.

These are much bigger than the Kuiu belt pouches, by the way; you can fit a nalgene bottle in them. Drawbacks are that they are heavy, not water proof, and not made in the US. Haven't tried them on MR, but I bet they would work (provided the webbing is designed right).

I bought the Kuiu Pro hip belt pouches to try on my Metcalf. Won't be able to try them out for another 30+ days though.
