Chasing loads

Went and shot yesterday, 2 weeks ago I had decent luck with 110gr 777 and hornady eldx. Yesterday wasn’t as great. Tried some Thor universals and 100gr, didn’t like that at all. Swapped to a federal bor lok and 100 gr. Gun seemed to like that quite a bit. Excited to go try again, may bump the charge up with the thors

Looking pretty good! Did you feel like that high right shot was you?

One thing I’m in the habit of doing is tapping the barrel with my palm to settle the powder before seating the bullet. This settles the powder in a consistent way each time. You may try adding that to your loading procedure.

I would call that a high probability. I don’t shoot enough to blame anyone but myself. I do wish that front bag fit a little better and I didn’t have to put the rear on a plastic riser though

Are you swabbing between shots?

You're into the fine tuning now. I weigh all of my charges and run a patch between shots to keep it fair. T7 is known for a crud ring buildup.

1 moist patch, both sides. Keeping the crud ring out, it’s super bad, sometimes I can’t go 2 shots.
Hopefully will be able to swap to bh209 next month after they open the Bass Pro here and I can get it without having to pay hazmat and shipping…

I seem to be getting inconsistent crud rings with 2F 777. Swabbing between every shot, maybe 1/3 of the time I can feel a definite crud ring when swabbing; the other 2/3 it goes right to the breech plug with no noticeable chance in resistance. The "crud ring" patches are solid black; and the "no-ring" patches grey with much less fouling. Same powder load, bullet and MV. I feel a tad baffled.

Strange. (Assuming everything else is the same.) Which rifle and load?

You might try 3F 777. Some report less fouling with it.

I noticed less of a crud ring with the Thor than the hornady's, the federals I think landed in the middle. The Thors were noticeably harder to get down the barrel.

I could not get the Thor's down the barrel. I was using 70gr (wt) 777 with 250gr TEZ (flat base) in the provided blue sabots. They went down with a smooth and light resistance. Groups were only at 50yards as I was sighting it in and this was my first trip to the range with it, but there was nothing erratic at that range on paper.

These were with the old, lifted primers in a pill bottle I was given. Two of the 12 didn't even go off. I'm thinking I'll just bring the new cheddites next trip and see if that eliminates a variable.
