Why do they seem to discontinue all the good carry ammo.

Years ago, Lucky gunner did a very good comparison and test of almost every carry pistol cartridge ammo --- i keep having to find new ammo (with less expansion and/or penetration) as companies discontinue ammo.

45acp- 230gr ranger and ranger +p had 1" expansion with 14.5" penetration (discontinued )
Federal 230gr tac bonded .86" with 14.6 pen ( discontinued)
Guess ill try the 230 Gold dot series next (.7/14")

9mm- 150 micro - .71" with 17.3" (discontinued)
147 ranger t- .74" with 16.5" (discontinued)
Next to try will be the 147hst series (.61/15.2)

The old winchester black Talon was pretty good too but --- discontinued

I am exclusively 9mm and 12 ga for Home defense. I have the 147g HST just because of the FBI reports....
I like my G20- its a shooter- but all of the ammo I have for it is the over penetrating stuff for big bears.

I don't have any dead or bleeding bad guys in my Foyer I can give you real world stats on how effective the 147g HST is.

Most LE departments use hst or gold dot. I don’t see either option going away anytime soon.

Gold Dots and HSTs are the top tier, but there are lots of good options

HST or Gold DOT not sure why anyone would choose something else. Literally the standard in the industry.

That was an excellent link.
