So I picked up a mint 2012 Carbon Matrix on a trade. It came with a Quad UltraRest HDX rest. I get set up, its shooting Awesome! I do some minor tunning and I have to reverse the peep. It's tied in good and like an idiot I careful try to cut the serving and end up cutting a strand of the String! Aggggggggg! Never happened to me before but now I need a new string and worst of all, I can't shoot my newly acquired pony!

Anyway, what is the best string to replace the one I ruined? I have never owned a hoyt so anyhelp is greatly appreciated. do I need to do any per-twisting of the new string when I get it etc....?

Gaaawwwwdddd! This sucks.

I would also suggest replacing the cables as well. Plenty of good string makers out there. I personally like Winners Choice but Americas Best has my attention with their new Platinum series. You shouldn't have to do a lot of twisting of the strings or cables provided they are made to spec. Just minor tweaks to adjust for timing and cam lean.

Knight, Ex-Wolverine, 60X, and several others make first class strings over on AT. I went with Park N Sons (ex-wolverine) this week for my newest set. Pleasure to work with.

I currently have winner's choice strings on my hoyt vector and my matrix. Had them on my Mathews and bear before that. I have had good luck with them but am leaning toward vapor trail for my vector 35 this year. It's next in line and I have been doing similar research. Nothing against winner's, just want to broaden my scope.

I sent ray knight an email last week about doing a set for my carbon matrix, but unfortunately he said he is taking a break for a little while. Looks like I will be going with park n sons (ex wolverine). Now what color combo to choose :/

You made a very good choice, trust me

Wait for Ray Knight. His are really good. When he says taking a break..I think he means it will be a week turn around lol and not a couple days

Could be mistaken, but I heard Ray is quitting making strings all together until he finds a new insurance company to cover his business. Could be a week could be 3 months.

Plenty of excellent string makers to choose from these days that's for sure. A custom high quality string will outperform a factory set by a long shot.

Yeah I talked with Ray and he is currently looking for a new insurance company to cover his work. So until then he is taking a hiatus.

Thanks for the all input. I settled on Worlds Best Strings. They have a great reputatuion and best of all they are located next door in Saskatchewan. They will have a set to me by Friday.

allen (that his name?) built me a set for my mathews Z7. amazing strings...maybe not the best looking aesthetically, but amazing. he actually called me to tell me he was gonna build my string 5/8th inch shorter (hmm. maybe longer) than OEM. he said it will hit 70lbs DW perfect that way. sure enough, it did. perfect 70;b DW. two turns out of the limbs got me the perfect 66.

i got two sets from the man. he is super cool..nice that he is local to you.

I just emailed Ray this week about a set of strings for my Carbon Matrix and he said he is only making strings for his cable slide conversion kits at this time. Probably going to go with Tom (Park-n-Sons/ex-wolverine) even though it may be a couple weeks to get them. Figured I would go that route instead of WC, ABB, Vapor Trail, etc.

You should seriously look at WBS. I have had them on my Carbon Matrix for about 5 months and love them. I gained 6 fps over the stock strings and they were easy to tune. I actually got a robin hood with bareshafts a little while ago checking my tune to ensure it was still on. My BH are spot on with my FPs, fly the same and to the same spot no difference. Plus with the USD worth more then the Canadian dollar you will save some money.

What kind of string material was that? Was that speed increase with putting speed nocks back on or without? Impressive. Thanks!

I can't recall the string material off the top of my head but if you google World Best Strings you will get their website and Allens (owner) phone number. Call him, he is a good guy and easy to talk too. I replaced the speed nock back on the new string in the same spots as the stock string.
