Anyone shipped a backpack Frame to Canada from the states recently?
Trying to get a ballpark dollar amount.

I have never shipped to Canada until yesterday.
I shipped a side pocket and a belt pouch in a small plastic shipping bag.
The cheapest price I could get was $29! I laughed at the guy and told him he must have done something wrong as I shipped the same thing across the US and the price was $6. He did everything correctly, I apologized and paid the shipping.

I cant image what a frame would cost to ship.

Depends on company, item, new or used, and price.

I recently ordered a exo pack and had it shipped to the border due to a $90+ cost to ship to Canada. I'll pick it up and pay the taxes at the border crossing.

USPS cheapest rate is usually the way to go.

We're totally screwed up here for good hunting gear as almost nobody has a Cdn distributor and then our dollar sucks on top of it.

A $600 bag will run almost $1000 Cad when all said and done :(

Whatever you do, do not ship anything UPS to Canada. They charge us huge fees on our end. Best is to ship USPS to Canada in my opinion.

Case in point....a few years ago when the US and Canadian dollar were at parity, I had enough Cabela’s US points to get a “free” Lowrance fish/depth finder that listed for $500. I ordered it from Cabelas US and had it shipped to my house in BC. They shipped UPS and my fees were $280!!!! I about puked but wanted the technology for
the boat. But never again with UPS from US to Canada. And in the US they are fine.

Does the person your shipping to have a PO Box number in the states?
Most Canadians who live near the border do.
You ship to their PO Box in the states and they drive over on a Friday for dinner/date and stop by the PO and pick the article up.
If they don’t have them foot the shipping. They are used to getting fleeced. I believe they pay a tax too.

Sourcing from the US and shipping North here into Canada can be a hit or miss situation on duties/customs taxes etc, let alone the shippings costs.

I've had a complete Bow come in from RMS Gear and two seperate orders from South Cox, both via USPS. No taxes/tariffs etc. Placed orders with Brent at Valkyrie Archery same thing, nothing. Yet if I order from say 3rivers? I get dinged everytime, go figure.

Most of us who are buying gear from stateside new or used are used to the fees, it's just par for the course with us.

Canadian here. I buy stuff here sometimes and also from american retailers. I live about 40 minutes from the border so I go across and pick stuff up from a shipping company I use. These days though, its pretty tough to make it worthwhile by the time I pay the exchange rate, various fees from paypal or whatever and the taxes bringing stuff back. People think I'm lowballing if I make an offer on an item, but I'm just trying to make it reasonable for me in the end.

Here's how it typically works if you ship from the states to Canada,

It goes through Canadian Customs - it can pass through without a look, or they get interested, see what it is, and flag it for a duty. Duty is dependent on what the item is and made of, and if it's made in the states or not...the value of the item is important, they're not going to charge you $2 duty on a $30 item....most of the time..

I know from a while back, that synthetic materials not manufacturer in US (tents, etc) are charged a 18% duty, then you pay 12% tax in BC....so 30% on top of the 30-32% exchange rate, you're paying almost 60% more!

Then there's tax, which also can and cannot be charged.

So, when you get a slip to pick up your item at the post office, they hand you the charges.

How much duty is charge can be dependent on what the shipping company declares on the shipping manifest and the value of the item.

What really sucks is when a company quotes on the website how much duties are and are completely wrong....so you might have ended up paying way more than you thought.

I live 10 min from the WA border and get things shipped to a WA hardware store under my name, no PO box... some companies won't ship to a PO box either! I pick it up, pay a small fee and then cross back. If the item is under $150, I usually get a pass. If it's more they usually charge just 12% tax, but if the agent is feeling peppy they will look up the duty and charge that too, it's a crap shoot.

In Vancouver, border traffic is so huge that unless you're bringing in a massive amount, they wave you through...would be nice.

I'm looking for a used pack and I live on Vancouver Island. I would imagine shipping would be expensive. Course I'd have no issues paying the shipping costs as well if that's what I needed to do.

I ship from USA to Canada several times a year. It was bad enough before Covid-19 and it’s a disaster now. Shipping times within the USA have tripled in the last few weeks (via USPS).

Just gotta ask your self if what you want is worth the additional shipping costs, and time I find when I’m tracking packages that it’s generally pretty quick till it gets into Canada then it gets slow...

I use a cross border broker, seawings out of Blaine. Always end up paying the duty, but that's cheaper than the UPS rip off rates. Living on an island in Canada makes for even higher shipping.

I got some mesh for a lacrosse net for my son 2 weeks ago.
It came from the east coast to Saskatchewan in 5 days sent ups.
It was a fair size box 14 lbs.
one thing to speed things up is pay the duty and tax when you buy the item if possible. Seems to speed things up at the border.
