So I picked up a foxpro while ago but just really havent got a chance to use it much. And Im new to predator hunting. I'm looking specifically at using it to call in cougars. Anyone out there have experience doing this with an electronic game call? What sounds do you use? How long to call with a specific sound? Do you switch back and forth between sounds? Any advice will help.

Thanks,
Trent

I try to call in cougars every Friday night, but they usually end up turning into coyotes by Saturday morning.

Seriously though, I'm looking forward to the responses. I'm relatively new to predator hunting as well...

Yeah I had a guy locally have success calling in 2 cats (seperate instances). Some info I gathered from him is; he calls in one spot for 2 hours and before he leaves the spot if no success he will use a cougar whistle sound. And apparently if theres a cat in the area they will call back? But I dont know and thats about all the tips I have.

I posted this question on the Long Range Hunting forum as well. So hopefully I get some good responses.

My buddy killed s cougar in AZ calling. If you want Cougars he had best luck with Cougar vocalist ion. Cougar distress, cougar moans and cougar in heat. If you are in an are you know they are there, call for an hour or so. Bring binoculars as they will hang up 200-300 yards out and just watch and wait. Glass while calling and you may pick up them watching or moving in slowly.

l know the feeling ! I'm too old to cougar hunt but I go fox hunting regularly and on Saturday morning I find I've miss identified and have a coyote.

Do get the cougars in I usually dress nice and try to act like I'm not poor and hunt all the time. I got to the divorcee bars and usually that's all it takes. Put a little smell good on.

There's a guy in Oregon? I think? that specializes in cougar calling. I cant remember his name but I think his sight is rainshadow.com????

A buddy and I got some sounds from him. We haven't had any luck yet but haven't really found the right situation to use em

Thanks for the info. I've heard of that site didn't know he was from Oregon though. Good deal thanks!

I call cats with the fox pro and use cougar heat calls. I usually call a set considerably longer than I would during coyote hunting. Cougars don't just run in they will stalk very.....very... slowly in from 100-300 yards out. I usually don't make a set unless I find fresh sign.
