Just now looking at the Cabelas website hoping to spend gift cards. I was hoping they had a pair of Meindl boots to replace a pair that is finally giving up the ghost. Their selection was limited and it almost felt like they may be quitting the Meindl line. I have always wore either Meindl or Lowa boots but in the last decade or so it seems Meindl quality is slipping. I remember the old Ibex model from probably 20 years ago, great boot lasted me about 6 years. They replaced that with the Ibex II. A piece of junk. Many of their models are no longer made in Germany but made with cheap labor else where. Perhaps they are waiting to bring out new models of Meindls but I suspect I may have bought my last pair of Meindl's.
I do see Cabelas does now offer Zamberlan and Kenetreck boots. Boot purchase will be put on hold until spring when I can get to the store.

So I went through this about 5 months ago. Had Meindls, loved them for years. Started a slight leak, went and got new ones. They were cheaper that several years ago and had no support. Ankles rocked back n forth bad. The label has changed. Price is cheaper. Not the same boot.

Long story short I went through 4 different boots before finally finding ones that fit my feet like the other. Kenetrek didn’t fit my toes, but were great hiking flat, downhill killed me.

Finally found Scarpas for my feet good. Shaped just right for me.

I’d say try on as many as you can and keep your receipt.

That’s not really true, there’s one pair that is made in Asia, the rest of them are made in Europe.

The quality hasn’t gone down on the meindl boots there have just been model of boots that have come and gone, but there are staple models that haven’t changed at all structurally, maybe just a touch aesthetically.

Now, there is a chance that they won’t be selling any meindls anymore, would be a bummer, but could potentially open up the market to other retailers to offer different options.

Many of their models are no longer made in Germany but made with cheap labor else where. Perhaps they are waiting to bring out new models of Meindls but I suspect I may have bought my last pair of Meindl's.

I’m only speaking of the Meindl Alaskan Hunter boots. The construction has changed. I took my old pair in and side by side the 5 year old boots had less lateral movement than the new ones. New materials, new internal designs, I don’t know but a lot less sturdy for mtn hiking.

Recently ordered my third pair of the Perfekt Hikers. From what I can tell they are the same great quality of my first two pairs. I have had them for a couple of months now. They just fit my feet!

Perhaps the Cabelas web site is not listing all the Meindl models currently available but other than some limited size Denalis I don't see any German made Meindl boots listed in the "Hunting boot" section. Their other none German made boots may be fine but I like the stiff ankle protection I've come to trust on earlier models.

I have a pair of the Perfekt Hunters (10" model) and the Perfekt Hikers (7" model) that I've had for about 4 years now and haven't had a problem with them yet and have been the most comfortable boots I've had so far

The Perfekt Hikers are listed in the hiking section on Cabela’s web site and are still imported from Germany.

I think when bass pro bought out cabelas they parted ways. I have not seen any of the perfekt boots in the boise store. Bass pro did away with a lot of stuff and a lot of employee's are not real happy

I used to run the Denali's and to this day were some of the most comfortable and longest last boot I've ever had. I sure hope they haven't changed, would like to get another pair.

Someone just posted somewhere else that cabelas discontinued the perfect hiker. He was able to find a pair through customer service, ship them to him.

Quick correction: I'm the fellow that posted that the Meindl Perfekt Hunter is discontinued...not the Perfekt Hiker, to my knowledge. The Perfekt Hunter's are the taller boot (10" I believe) and they have 400 grams of Thinsulate insulation. I wear them year-round and have no discomfort during the summer with them being too warm. They are both excellent boots as I have both the Hunter and the Hiker - and best of all...they are still made in Germany. And, yes, Cabela's was wonderful in helping me secure another pair in my size.
