I will be hunting elk rifle here in Wyoming in October 15. Looks like a good amount of snow will be on the ground prior to the hunt. The area is currently closed due to fires and will not have been hunted for a month. Will the burn areas from a fire 2 years ago still be good to hunt? Will elk be in there still? Thanks.

We currently have multiple large fires in the state. In my experience, Elk May still be in the area if the fire gets out in time for them to move back in. With the three large fires burning right now, I am going to probably guess they won’t be in the area. With the Roosevelt Fire, there has been so much activity in that area and the fire is so large I don’t think you will have large amount of elk in the area. The adjacent areas however may hold more elk than normal. I am a local who has hunted the Roosevelt fire and the fire near Mcdougal for years and I am not planning on going back until next year. Mostly because the fire won’t be out until we get dumped on for snow. If you want to pm me, feel free.
