I am looking at buying a budget gps, it doesn’t have to be fancy, I just need it to mark locations and get me back to camp if I need it. I was looking at the Garmin etrex 10 or the Bushnell backtrack mini. Any others that you would recommend? I am looking at used ones as well.

I would get a garmin in reach. You can mark points and track as well as have an emergancy devise. I use this as my backup and mainly navigate with Onx on my phone.

I don't like having a single point of failure so I have my regular phone and I keep my old phone with OnX and various tools on it (with no service) as well with me instead of a standalone GPS. As a bonus if I break my regular phone I can flip my SIM card into the old backup and have cell service if need be.

Get an older Garmin unit that is compatible with their Huntview mapping chip. Works as you desire and the chip gives aerial images. A used GPS can be had for $75-$100 and the chip is about another $100. As good as OnX for my needs and no annual subscription. User interface is obviously not as good nor are the aerial images but that is a tradeoff I’ll take.
