I'm thinking about spending a weekend in the boulder creek wilderness outside Roseburg. I haven't been in there since high school and it held a few elk back then. Does anybody know the condition of it since the fire burned it in 08?

A lot of it still hasn't came back. It still holds elk, not a ton but just enough! When I dont draw an Ochoco tag thats 1 of the places I hunt as well. I usually come in from either up by Bear Camp or 1 of the lower trail heads. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Thank you. I appreciate it. I'm new to archery equipment but live in Roseburg so I thought it could be a solid weekend hunt option.

Just to bring back an old thread I was just curious if anyone has been in here since it burned in 2018. It cool country, and was okay for blacktail when I hunted it. But I have no idea what it looks like now( I wasn't sure if it was a complete wasteland or just a dirty burn with lots of patches. I plan on making a backpacking trip this summer, but wanted to see if anyone had been in there just so I can know what to expect.

Once again, resurrecting an old thread. Last time I was in there was 2018. The trail going in from pine bench was pretty choked out and I didn’t get back in there very far. Has anyone been in there in the last year or 2? I was wondering if it got hit by any fires and what kind of growth it had going on. Is it greener up pretty good? What’s the condition if the trail going up the valley?

BUMP- did you ever end up going in there? I want to hike in and look for some spring bears, just wondering what the country is like. I live in Roseburg as well

I went in last year and camped on pine bench. There’s a spring that was flowing and we had a water source close by camp. We were spring bear hunting and got hit with limited visibility and lots of rain. We pushed up the drainage and ended up crossing the creek (which was freezing) and found some decent burns. There was very little bear sign and we didn’t end up putting eyes on any bears. But it has got to be holding plenty of them. We might have been too early as well. There is a trail that comes in from the top of the drainage as well, but snowpack prevented us from accessing from the top.

Awesome thank you. I was thinking about hiking in this next week and see what it looks like. Hopefully will be able to glass into some of those burns.
