Who else reads, listens to audiobooks or plays games on there phone on a backpack hunt.

As gay as it sounds, I'm addicted to Candy Crush at the moment and play it in the bivy before I go to bed.

So anyone else do this, and what's your choice? Games, books or audiobooks?

I've always been a book guy for some reason. This year was my first bringing one with me on my scouting trips. Couldn't believe how well it helped pass the time before I went to sleep. I will be bringing one with me from now on

Big fan of audio books, and I will occasionally read an ebook if weather is crummy. Never jumped on the candy crush bandwagon, which is probably good for the battery life of my phone. Always bring along a deck of cards, and we have played some serious games of rummy!

No books for me, except reading elknut's playbook. ;) besides calling the wife the phone stays off on hunts.

Personally when I am hunting its from pre-daylight, to post dark. Downtime is either eating, filling water, notetaking/journaling, or ocassionally napping. After returning post-dark to camp, I want to eat, then go to sleep.

Eastmans mag before I crash in the bivy... Previous years it was listening to music. This year I will probably be candy crushing it too.

You guys play with yer phones while in the woods? Mine hits the glovebox.

I had 3 guys totally enthralled with the audiobook about arctic exploration and survival I downloaded last season. Woke up to pea soup down to the deck, with wind and rain--not very conducive to hunting sheep. Luke and I collapsed the nest, and our two buddies joined us in the SL5 for coffee, cider, and a story for a half day waiting out the weather. Betcha those other guys download a book or two this year :)

I use a library lending website called Listen Alaska (check with your local library, I hear many states have similar programs). All I have to do is enter my public library card number and I can download audiobooks on loan for 3 weeks at a time. Works great, and saves some $ too...

The book we listened to on that trip was called "The Last Voyage of the Karluk" and follows a crew of men whose ship broke up in the ice north of AK I the early 20th century. Their captain walked 700 miles across the ice to Russia to get help for his ailing crew, eating nothing but pemmican and seal meat. It took something like a year for them to be rescued... A great "read/listen" and highly recommended....nothing puts a backpack hunt in perspective like a true survival story!

Yep...made us hiking in 20 miles one way to go sheep and caribou hunting seem pretty small potatoes compared to them boys....those guys were TOUGH!!!!!

Oh yeah and the Ernest Shackelton audio book "The Endurance" about being stranded on the other pole is a great listen as well!!!
