Lately I have been unhappy with the fletching jobs I have been getting with my Arizona EZ Fletch mini. I felt that the placement was imprecise and sloppy. The only reason I used it was because of the strong helical that it gives short high vanes like Blazers.

I kept wishing to could get a the neatness and precision of my Bitz with the helical of the mini.

So with that in mind I made a modification to the Bitz Helical camp.
I cut the top of the clamp off at a very slight angle up towards the clamp springs. This prevents the front of the clamp from touching the shaft. The reason being was that without the clamp touching the shaft I was able to add a bit more angle to the adjustment while keeping the bases of the vanes in contact with the shaft.

While I still do not think I have as much helical as the AEZ mini, I have it very very close. And add to it that the vane placement is more precise, with less front to back variation as well as more precise placement on the circumference of the shaft. Arrow to arrow its an improvement.

I'll have to go look at my Bitz here later. I get a lot of offset on my AAE Max Hunter vanes. I have found the secret is leaving at least 1/8" of the vane out when I go to clamp it down. I'll take some pictures later to try to illustrate. I have had very good results on mine, I just did a dozen FMJ shafts a couple of days ago.

Nice! I have always fought the front of the clamp when fletching blazers. Getting out the hack saw tonight!

That's how I also place my vanes in the clamp. I also put it on the shaft by rolling it from bottom to the top. Seems to get much better contact on the base of the vane that way.

I've never understood why the top portion of the clamps always contact the arrow shaft first. I just grind them down until it's not an issue. I get much better even pressure on the vanes without that contact.
