Esteemed Roksliders,

I relocated from Austin, TX to Arlington, VA for work relatively recently. My 2 year old Yellow Lab (first dog and first hunting dog) is still at his trainer's in Texas. He just passed his first AKC Senior Hunter test today.

I knew I was pretty spoiled in Texas with a big Cabelas down the road, great gunsmiths in the area, active shooting sports and hunting clubs, several hunting dog clubs/events/trainers, major shooting ranges everywhere, plenty of big game and waterfowl and upland hunting opportunities, etc. I spent some time in the Austin area back when I was in the Army, so I got to know it decently well even before I started making enough money to shoot/hunt regularly, buy cool toys, get a good dog, have him trained etc.

I do NOT know any good a) shooting ranges, b) gunsmiths, c) shops/stores, d) clubs, e) trainers, f) outfitters/guides for upland/waterfowl (and I've heard Eastern Maryland is incredible for duck hunting), or e) other resources for shooting sportsmen, hunters, and their dogs in my new town. I like Northern Virginia, I just don't know it yet.

At some point (sooner rather than later I hope), I'd like to get my dog to Virginia and finally get into the field with him.

Let me know if you have recommendations on A-E or anything else cool/helpful in the DC or greater VA/MD (or even general East Coast) area. I am also a passionate rifle shooter and big game hunter, so the same applies for those interests. Thanks for your time!
