Took this big Tom Sep '22 on my property in north Idaho.
He was eating everything on my mountain. He killed 6 does / fawns the previous 8 weeks just on my place.
I had to wait for season to start.
I recognized a pattern he developed and he became complacent. He also wasn't afraid of me or my dogs.
I was waiting for him. 110 yards with a Armalite AR-10 (T) Carbine .308, 168 gr. He still ran 50 yards with no heart or lungs.
121 pounds of killing machine. I am 5'-10", 175 pounds for reference.
I would say there was less than 2 lbs of fat on the entire cat.
It was about 3 years old.
See a pic of the ultra lean backstrap meat.
I gotta say, I have been in a lot of hairy situations, but going after a shot cougar in the dark, alone, in the woods, is exhilarating! That'll make your neck hair stand up.
When I took the pics I hadn't had a bourbon yet.
The skull pics - On the right is a female I tagged last year. She was about 1 1/2 years old, 90 pounds. Skull on the left was this years Tom. They were killed almost exactly a year apart, and only 50 yards apart.
