I drive a 4 door 4x4 Tacoma, which hauls all my stuff to where ever I'm going for quick trips. It works out well. There are just a few times I wished I had a quad or UTV to drive around instead of that truck.
I'm getting ready to retire in 5 or 7 years and would like to spend weeks on end hunting.......I'd like to get a trailer to be comfortable, but that complicates things a lot. First world, quality problems!!!!
Ideally I would buy another truck to pull a trailer and use that truck like I've used my Tacoma to four wheel around. The problem is I am going to need a big 1/2 ton or probably 3/4 ton truck for a 24 to 30 something trailer. I really don't want to go much off a dirt road with a big truck, especially a diesel 2500 HD GMC. I usually end up on really, rough, narrow, rocky, bouldery two tracks with my Tacoma.
What I've usually seen guys do is drive a big truck, trailer, and quad or UTV. Or drive a 1/2 ton only with a smaller travel trailer. They park that whole mess sometimes miles from where they hunt and ride in on a UTV or quad.
The real wild card is my wife. I can't really predict if she is going to want to spend a lot of time with me, or just a few weeks here and there in a trailer. I'd like to have a plush nice trailer for her, but real Spartan if it's just me.
I'm kinda leaning on say a 2500 HD GMC diesel, a travel trailer, and a Honda 500 pioneer. The Honda Pioneer could fit in the back of the truck and I could get something to support the tailgate and buy a heavy duty trailer hitch extension good for towing 10,000 plus pounds. That Nissan Titan looks real nice, but it "could" be a thousand or so too light on hauling capacity.
What do you all do that haul a trailer hundreds of miles up and down the mountains to four wheel around on two tracks and rough roads, once you get there?
Thanks
Bill
