820 and 114 have pay by mail express lanes now.

How exactly does that work?? Do you get the bill in the mail later, or you have to pay ahead of time? Not familiar with that. Here in NO, we have "toll tags" that you have on your windshield near the inspection sticker, and the toll booth has a reader as you pass through that reads the toll tag. You have to pay ahead of time, and the toll is deducted from your account. If you don't have money in the account, the gate will not open, and the Officer happily hands you a ticket.

Toll tags work the same way in Texas but there are no gates. They keep a record of your credit card and debit it to bring your account to 40.00 or what ever when the balance goes too low. If you have no account there are cameras that photograph your license plate, run the tag and send the registered owner a bill.

Toll tags give you a discounted fee charged to your CC funded account on file, no toll tag they send you a bill in the mail.
Hint on the bill in the mail, pay it as soon as you get it. The late fee is 20x more then the toll.

Look at taking I20 on the south side of Dallas all the way to 287 on the west side of Arlington. Takes you out towards Wichita Falls and then to Amarillo.

You can either go thru the center of Ft Worth, or link 820 on the east side of Ft Worth to the north-northwest to hit 287 again.

This is the best way I've found and there is really not a good way

35W or 35E to 114 ? I kinda planned on taking 20 to 35 W, then at about mile marker 60, it branches off to 81/287 which is where I need to be.

35 east(down town dallas) to 114 west. 114w runs into 287.

Your way works also I gave you the north of DFW way you're looking at the south of DFW way.

I perfer 114 over I-20. Really six in one half a dozen in the other.

Thanks again. It all depends on the current traffic conditions, I'm sure. An accident will back things up, but as long as I am moving, I am happy. Two years ago, we got stuck on I-35. There was construction, and all lanes merged to one lane, then everything had to exit (I think it was Coit Rd exit?). Had no idea where we were, and no idea which way to go. A roadmap finally got us to another expressway, and we only lost an hour and a half. Since then we have been trying to avoid going through Dallas. I have been going for 25 years, and it seems there is always some construction on I-35. Progress I suppose, but sure is a headache.
I will reconsider, and look at 114 instead of the I-20 route.
