Not upland game, but I smoked a Traeger full of geese and duck into jerky today! I like jerky of all sorts and probably the best way to prepare waterfowl IMO.. 😉😋

Quail, although I almost made myself sick on a pheasant casserole prepared by my CO’s wife when I was in the service back in the 70’s. The memory of that has stayed with me this long!

The obvious commonality is that they are both ground birds and their meat is lighter and not as strong as hard flying birds like dove and duck, although I must say I do very much enjoy teal.

Mountain grouse are tasty but come on pheasant is ridiculously good! Never had chukar, ptarmigan, or woodcock but have had everything else on the list. Also a fan of sharpie but Sage grouse/prairie chickens, not so much.

I've killed and eaten all on this list, plus a few more. My preferences:

1A. Huns that have been eating in wheat fields
1B. Valley Quail
2. Pheasant
3. Mountain Quail
4. Blue Grouse
5. Ruffed Grouse
6. Gambels Quail
7. Chukar
8. Wild Turkey

Sharptails are just gross. Sage Hens aren't much better. Woodcock sucks worms.

Here’s a pic of a couple of Valley Quail and a wheat-fed Hun and an English Setter who certainly knows the deliciousness she’s looking at.
