I'd like to try and hunt for a cow elk in addition to probably deer, possibly antelope. I realize it might mean 2 totally different hunt areas and might need to hunt archery for the cow elk but I am OK with this.

Some areas have restrictions that involve hunting private land only (which explains the large quota and few tags and applied for).

I spoke to regional G&F folks today-Jackson & Cheyenne and they were very kind but had little in the way of recommendations for what I'm looking for. I found 51 units with tags available for the 2017 draw for type 6 & 7. The units I've hunted before have no tags available for cow/calf. There are changes in quotas for 2018 but not in areas I have been before

Looking for suggestions-I am OK with trespass fee for the cow elk if that is best way to go.

Thanks!

Black hills, if your looking for whitetails. Everything there that you mentioned. With a little leg work you may be able to hunt a ranch with a trespass fee that has access to all three.

If I had the opportunity I would hunt the grasslands area around Douglas. Excellent area for all species. Pretty flat too. But the rancher I know has lived there his whole life and has only elk hunted there a time or two because tags are all but impossible to get. I asked him about elk and he just laughed and said a NR would just be better off looking at them. Great area though.
