Bench project

My wife uncle asked if we wanted his old bench he made he made for his wife who passed just about a year ago. We have one he made for my wife around 15 years ago. If I knew how bad it was, I would have said no. He is a real craftsman, aside from these benches, he has built cracker box and speed boats his son raced. he also built, canoes, sail boat, row boats and one biplane. He is 87 and didn't want to work on it again. He had never painted one before, this one was originally varnished. I completely took it apart, stripped off the remaining paint and went to work sanding. I only had to replace the wood on the center arm rest. I put two coats on the sections before I put it back together, then four more coats of marine varnish with sanding between coats. Just finished today.
