Been invited to AZ to hunt in 2019/2020. I know nothing.

Met a couple of awesome dudes deep in a canyon during my 2nd Rifle CO elk hunt this year, my group helped them pack out a monster elk and they want to repay the favor by staying with them and taking us out for an archery mule/coues hunt. Their place is in 3A/3C, and I'm struggling to get info to plan the hunt, the internet isn't as saturated with that stuff as it is CO elk stuff.

My main questions is:

What seasons are available OTC for 3A/3C? He indicated mule deer archery, and maybe Coues and Javelina rifle? Black bear?

Trying not to bombard them with 100 questions and just present a long weekend plan that works. Anyone with experience would be greatly appreciated!

Great opportunity. Google azgf regulations season rules. That’ll show the opps.

Anyone else out there able to give some tips n tactics?

So if I'm interpreting this correctly, it says that the only archery only deer hunt for 3A/3C is Aug 24-Sep 13 (for 2018 season anyway), and that only 75 permits would be given? He indicated that archery was 100% draw, hence my confusion, and that there was also a January rut season?

I know I just need to give a wildlife office a call, will do that soon.

3A/3C is one of the few groups of units in Arizona that are limited entry for archery deer. There is only one season and that is during late August/early September yearly. 3A/3C are not open to archery hunters OTC at any point to my knowledge, or during the January rut season.

Draw odds aren't great for nonresidents:

Looks like it took 7 points in 2017 to be guaranteed to draw as a nonresident. You could draw any year in Arizona, though, the odds with 0 points were 3.7%

Thanks! Yeah looks like we'll have to look into neighboring units.

It is true that 3A/3C are good units for deer but they are draw only units. And your chances of getting drawn are slim.

Arizona archery seasons are late Aug to early Sept then mid-late Dec to Jan 31st. The deer down here rut between late Dec and early Jan. Being that Coues pretty much only are only found in southern Az, it’s a great idea to pick up an OTC deer tag and hunt the rut every year.

Hunt units 34B, 33, 23, 1, or 27 imo. Saw a huge 8 pt in 27 in September this year.

Plus, Coues Whitetail do live in 3a/3c and the units just south of there have great Coues Whitetail hunting. Not just in southern Arizona. I would talk directly with them to learn what's expected and go from there... Ed F
