Actually the point wasn't that scientists don't agree, it was that people have misinterpreted what he said.

I've long argued that the report “Efficacy of Bear Deterrent Spray in Alaska” was misquoted and the author agrees. Point of fact is that the author says that bear spray is only 33% effective at stopping an actual brown bear attack and he further agrees that firearms are somewhere between 76% and 96% effective at stopping an attack.

That's exactly what I've told people for years.

Yup and at the time that this report came out there was a big push to keep the grizzly bear on the endangered species list and reintroduce them in to the Rocky Mountain States. The report's conclusions were hijacked by the environmental activists and now, 11 years later, we have an entire generation that swears that bear spray is just as or more effective than a firearm at stopping a bear attack. Even the Federal Government tells National Park visitors that they need to use bear spray for defense against bears.

Now that the author of the report is on record saying that bear spray is only 33% effective against actual bear attacks, I wonder how long it will be before some victim of a bear attack sues the Government or the Universities that were involved in publishing this report for pushing a false narrative that resulted in the victim being injured.

It’ll be ok most states sidestepped liability a long time ago by relinquishing ownership of the animals to we the people. So how could “the government” be at fault for telling us how to discipline our animals?
