Bear Hides

I was curious to all of those who shoot multiple bears, what do you do with the hides? I shot my first bear last year, and had it made into a rug, but after paying that price thats not something I want to do every year. I did love bear hunting though and want to do that every year. It just seemed way to cool to just throw away.

Well there was this one beautiful 325lb boar, but the taxi let the hide spoil. Still kinda soar about that one. It was a really cool brown phase with black leggings.
Just not a trophy collector.

Yes indeed. I try to take a grizzly every year from where I hunt moose and caribou. Was able to score another one this year and this one is getting tanned as well. Just add them to the stack.

I saw an article once by a Dwight Schue. He had several that he just had tanned and hung them on a wall side by side. It was pretty cool. Wish I had taken a pic of the picture, I have never been able to find it online.

Yeah, have em tanned. I do this with bison hides. In many states selling sport-taken game is illegal. You can also give em to your taxi in exchange for a discount on future projects.

What's it run to have em tanned? I had a muley done last year and it was $150 in ok. Wondering how much more a bear hide would cost.

When your haveing them just tanned, are you cutting the head at the shoulders or leaving the skinned head part intact? What are you doing with the feet?

Feet are cut and head is cut as well. I've given feet and stuff away. Some people like to make jewelry out of them as well.

This is if I'm turning it into a throw blanket of sorts. If your going to keep it on the back of a couch or on a guest bed, it's up to you if you want to keep all that on. It defiantly adds to the finality of ya it was shot not bought.

Obviously you can always cut some thing off if you decide you don't like it, it's a lot harder adding it back on though

Really it depends. If i am gonna be in the field a few more days then I'll roll the head out and do the paws myself. If I am dropping it off to my taxidermist he can do the heads and paws on the grizzers. It isn't tough to do, but honestly I usually am busy getting ready for the next trip or putting gear away so its just easier. I always leave the head and paws on when I have them tanned if thats what you are asking.
