I've used OnX since they came out. The 3D mapping of the other two has me very interested. anyone know which is better, or what the differences are?

I also have a question for base map users. How many way points can you have on your base map account before it cause issues in off line mode? I know about the max for OnX maps is around 1500 waypoints and the app will crash.

Basemap is using Google 3d which only works when you have internet service. I believe GoHunt 3d will work without service and from what I have been told, GoHunt base imagery in their final version will be a significant improvement over basemap or onX.

Pros and cons to both.. seems to be personal preference. BaseMaps will probably see this eventually and give you some information on this topic.

I use both basemap and onx. I like the Google earth satellite imagery of basemap better and the similarities it has to the controls of google earth. I am slowly transitioning everything to basemap from onx the last year or so. No point in commenting or asking about gohunt maps until they come out with their app and it can be thoroughly tested in the field. All they are doing is pushing a ton of marketing without a final product.

Is there anything that gohunt can provide without using Google earth + Onx combined?

Does anyone know if any of the mapping systems out there (Onx, Basemap, GoHunt) let you open maps during different seasons to view snow-pack from current or previous years?

Not sure about historical, but Gaia has a Snow Depth Layer that utilizes NOAA's SNODAS system

GoHunt's mapping product is brand new. Honestly I wouldn't want to count on it this season for fear of getting burned by development issues even once it's fully released and available.

I just switch from Onx to basemap. I would say the biggest difference is basemap map quality is better. On the other hand Onx has more options for way points. I've been having some issues with the basemap layers not showing upon the map when they are turned on. Not sure if that is normal with their product

Im very new to forums in general so I hope this post works the way I’ve seen it. I may be wrong but I swore OnX used to show maps by season. Kind of. More foliage- non foliage thing. I’m now assuming it may have just been updated between seasons. I did Just check OnX and BaseMap and I don’t see, and haven’t seen anything in regards to your snowpack question. between BaseMaps and OnX, BaseMap is far superior in image quality but the maps are just too damn old for where I am. Example being it’s showing a house on my road but in reality it’s over grown and looks like the house has been gone so long you honestly wouldn’t know a house was ever there. The two I mentioned do both show historic and current wildfire areas as well as timber cutting though.

I have no experience with Base Map. I have been a lifelong Onx user and have been relatively pleased (especially as the app has developed and dependability has increased). I am also a Gohunt subscriber. What I can say after being able to mess around with the gohunt mapping is that if it continues to head where I think it is, it will be a no brainer for me. The maps are incredibly more helpful for 3d purposes (especially out West) and if they can create an offline map system that is dependable, I will be dropping Onx for sure. I want to give it time to make sure it is dependable, however, the 3D is a gamechanger for understanding where you are going to be hunting and especially your ability to see/create a plan when you are in the field hunting. Excited to see what the future holds. It is certainly a good time to be a consumer as competition in this area is going to create some pretty awesome tools for us to use.

I've been bouncing between Basemap and GoHunt most recently. I feel like GoHunt was late to the game for this season. Fun to play with 3d and some of their unique tools but I don't expect to see a reliable app this season.

Similarly, BaseMap desktop is awesome, but the app is lagging behind desktop - so badly that I may purchase OnX just for field use. Waiting for someone to put it all together in one platform.

I feel the same way!! Though it was all in my head with the basemap app!

Played around with GoHUNT map E scouting this past week and I’m excited about some of the features. We’ll see where it goes.

My guess is OnX will respond to the competition with a 3D map of their own one of these days.
