Can a Bartlein carbon fiber #13 barrel shank be turned down to fit a Tikka action without getting into the carbon wrap?

You can get a Bartlein Carbon Tikka specific shank in a #4 Bull Sporter. The other contours? I have not done it or measured one but I'd think there is enough material to turn a shank down to size. The other option is to shorten up the front of the action to get rid of the taper and use a larger barrel shank.

Tikka specific from Bartlein: #4 Bull Sporter but 1.130" breech diameter for Tikka / Sako Actions

On another forum, I just saw someone with the following for sale, supposedly direct from Bartlein:

Bartlein Carbon Wrapped Barrel - #13 Remington Varmint/Sendero Contour
  • .284/7mm
  • 1.8" Twist
  • 21" Blank / 20" Finish
  • 5R Rifling
  • 1.130" Breech Diameter (Tikka)

I had a bartlien carbon fiber #4 chambered in 6mm creedmoor by a reputable smith and he turned the carbon fiber down along with the steel shank. Can't remember the particulars exactly but I must have bought the larger 1.2 shank with the intentions of having the face of the action trued and he talked me out-of that for the purpose of keeping the action stock for prefits or takeoffs. Anyways right or wrong he turned the carbon fiber down on the lathe. If you knew what you were looking at you could probably tell but otherwise no issues so far and it's been 4 years now.

Did you buy it or did someone snag it before you could? That was a good price…

Thank you. The #4 and #13 are almost identical weights at 20" finished, so this is very helpful. Post a pic when it is finished!

Last I talked to bartlein they would not do a tikka shank barrel.

Maybe that’s changed.

Either way I’d be in communication with whoever is doing the chambering if they are or are not willing to trim down the shank. Some happily will and others will not.

Fwiw a 1.2 or 1.25” shank diameter on a tikka is not big deal as long a your stock is cut accordingly.

BAKPAKR turned me onto a Bartlein Tikka blank that someone had for sale.
