Barney's vs Kifaru

I need a meat hauler for elk and I have a bag I could attach. I've used the kifaru bikini frame before. never the barney's but I do have the Cabelas external frame/bag from before I tried the Kifaru. Both are supposed to be good haulers.


Was thinking of just buying the frame. Barney's Alaska Freighter frame is $289 Kifaru is $338

Opinions?

Is this a personal preference internal vs external decision since both are good?

Leaning toward the barneys' just to try something new. I'm picking up a Dana Design Arcflex just to try out since they're cheap.

Barneys frames are nice, I have one even though I also have a kifaru, Im not getting rid of it.

I've never owned a Barney's but I did borrow one from a friend for a sheep hunt years ago and I have owned a couple Kifaru packs. As far as a meat hauler for packing big, on the bone quarters, like moose, I think you'd be very hard pressed to find something better than a Barney's. Many, many outfitters/guides up here swear by them and won't use anything else.

I have a Barneys and I sure like it. I altered the load shelf to my liking and used a different bag to save money.

I have both the kifaru and the Barney's. Got the Barney's as I couldn't get a Kifaru frame in time a few years back. It hauled out my first elk and it worked really well. I have since always had my Kifaru with Argali bag and that works really well too. I have grown a custom to the bag and it seems to grab my waist a little better. Both are great frame's, I have been saving my Barneys for an Alaska moose hunt, but that has been pushed off. I would be willing to let it go for $260 TYD if interested. I don't think you'll regret either frame. The Barney's Frame is way better than the Cabelas. Best of Luck.
