Here in the inter mountain west (Utah, Idaho, Wyoming) what elevations have you had the best success in setting your bait sites? From what I understand too high or too low and you won't get much activity. Does it even matter? Average snow line in May?

It has been my experience that good habitat and bear density is more important than elevation for spring bear hunting over bait (much more important for spot and stalk). I generally focus my baits on ridge tops and saddles where bears travel and where I get very good scent dispersal into thick cool draws where bears like to bed during the day.

Water close by will certainly help your site out a lot. Some states you have to be a certain distance away from creeks/rivers... In that case, I'd be right on the minimum. I think this is overlooked by many people who set up baits.

Water is good!

Also...It should be against the law to live in Alaska and have pictures of Turkeys as your avatar...:D

Give me some time Cory! We just got out baits in yesterday, I plan to start hunting soon and with any luck I will change it to a bear soon :)
