Need suggestions!

I’ve owned an Eberlestock X2 that would probably be good. Others?

Pack doesn’t need to haul elk out, just carry basics while on horseback.

Personally, I’d recommend a sling for your bow and forego the idea of strapping your bow to a backpack and wearing it horseback.

Don’t use it for horseback, but I have a Kuiu pack bow holder that works great on my bike. It cost like $30 and attaches to most packs (If you already have a pack). Very secure for me, easy on and off.

I'll tell you from experience that if you attach your bow to your pack, make sure the nocks of your arrows are NOT oriented down because when you hit a steep part of the trail and you lean back to balance yourself in the saddle those nocks act as good spurs on the back of the horse and they don't like it. Good 8 second rodeo on a very steep switchback with my horse trying to pass the rest of our pack string. Couldn't lean forward or I'd get stomped when I fell in front of the horse or thrown off the cliff. Couldn't lean back to pull on the reins and balance because my nocks would jab the horse in the back encouraging more bucking. Crappy situation that I'm still not sure how I came out on top of the horse and none of us got thrown or knocked over the edge. I use a primos bow sling over my shoulder now. No rodeos since the switch.

IMO...get a sight you can detach quickly...bow goes on scabbard on the side of the horse...tuck your arrows/quiver into your pack...sight goes in pack. or you could leave sight attached your call. I have seen too many bows caught on brush, bows or arrow knocks poking horses, and general bows making it uncomfortable/hard to ride.

I've been hunting elk with a rifle for 20 years and I have to say I'm terrified to bring my bow with me in my horse. I guess it's just a gamble....

I would probably remove my quiver, store my arrows in a tube and my stabilizers in my pack. Then just pray for no rodeo....

We have broken a few guns over the years...just the stocks though.

Bow scabbard or sling on bow with arrows and quiver removed. One year I took header off horse when it spooked. As falling i was able to get bow off shoulder and hold up in air not landing on it. It was Rodeo

I had a buddy do similar, but landed on his bow. He crushed the quiver hood with his ribs and was close to taking a broadhead to the chest.

Since then, I have been a big advocate of scabbards.
