I prefer open toed shoes or five finger shoes when I need my backcountry shoes to help me count tines. However, I rarely ever have to count above ten, so I usually just use my fingers.

If you don’t have wide feet, the zamberlan salathe gtx is an amazing hunting shoe/boot. They are extremely capable in tough terrain, yet nimble and quiet on a stalk… being a zamberlan, as long as you don’t beat them up a ton in the thorns, they will stay dry… one of the very few lightweight boots that will maintain waterproofness

A cheaper similar option is the asolo shiver, I have only seen them on Sierra, not as capable as the zamberlan in really tough terrain, but another excellent durable lightweight low boot, they are always 100 bucks, and for the life you get out of them, that’s a steal
