I’m needing a new spotter and have decided on either the BTX or ATX. Currently I have a pair of NL Pure 10x42 that I use on a tripod, and want something that will give me the best look at an animal I find. I do backpack hunt as well as truck hunt. I know the BTX is the cats meow, but im not sure about not being able to zoom. Anyways let’s hear from those that have used both the BTX and ATX. Which one did you decide on and why?

I love my btx, but it is pretty specialized for long distance looking over a lot of country. If you do a lot of glassing from 1-3+ miles out, and it’s pretty open country with a lot of terrain to look over, then it’s a great choice. For strictly trophy judging or looking at a few spots in a basin from distance, I think the weight and pack ability of the atx with a 65 or 85mm objective would be more versatile. I can definitely judge a deer with the BTX but it’s easier with zoom. I also have the extender to throw on if I really need a closer look, but again the atx is better for that.

I would not want to backpack with my btx. It’s heavy and bulky and you really need a stout tripod and head to make it work smooth.

I run an AtX with 115 objective. Plenty of power to see just about anything I desire. Looked through a BTX on an Idaho trip last week and they were pretty nice. Not sure I would spend the extra cash for them though

Have you ever ran the ATX with the 95 or 85? Is there much difference with 115?

Do you have a smaller set up with the ATX?

I have an ATX and a BTX. I had a 65mm and 95mm objective. I have a 95mm objective only now. Used the 65mm objective on many hunts and just sold it. Much prefer the 95. The 115 is too much for me. I’m sure I could enjoy the 85 but have no plans to downsize from the 95. It does everything well enough to justify its size. Probably going to try the new ATC to try and replace the 65mm.

Some day I’ll have one... I’ve looked through them though. Right now I’m just using the btx 85 for everything, unless I’m hunting smaller country or backpacking then I bring the kowa 554. I tried all the objectives and just preferred the 85. Better FOV and a little more user friendly when the glassing is under a mile. Plus it did not need a balance rail, and the 1.7x extender worked much better with the 85 than the 95.

I run the STX on the 95mm and the BTX on the 115. I don't see enough difference to need the 115mm with the STX/ATX, but the extra light gathering with the BTX/115mm combo is nice. If I had to chose one only, it'd be the STX/ATX and the 95mm.

Definitely use the BTX more. It is amazing to glass with in big country…not just twice as good as 15s; multitudes better. Spotter to zoom in for judging. Don’t want to give up either for sure.

115 is a whole bigger level of porn.

I don't own one. We used one an outfitter had to do some stargazing and it was amazing.

One of those "lottery purchase needs". Real needs for this cowboy, not so much.

I have a HD STS 85. I wish the eye piece was as good as the ATX, but for the price it is great.

I have the 85 atx and more than Happy with it.

A good Buddy is a guide and has the atx 85, 95, btx and the 1.7 magnifier.

He told me to get the 85 if I was only gonna get 1.

Ran with 95. Honestly only difference I could really see was a little more light gathering. Would just stay with 95 if I had to do over

If you are only doing one objective size go with the 85mm. If you plan to get two get the 65mm and the 95mm.

ATX vs BTX i cant answer for you as each has its own purpose and not comparing apples to apples imo

so since all of you know a heck of alot about these than i do.. can you only zoom the the stx and atx and no zoom on the BTX? just the way its designed and the objective does not matter as far as the zoom goes? i saw on the rings it shows 30 -70x so im assuming that only is with the atx or stx?

Yes the ATX/STX is 30-70. The BTX is set at a 35 unless you get the 1.7x magnifier.
