Are you taking this shot?

I would. And I have killed 4 bulls this way. But I shoot a 430 grain arrow at a little over 290 fps I've never had one not sink at least to the fletching.

I used to be on the side of the frontal shot being unethical. Here we go again, an ethics thread, but after reading all the threads that have already discussed it on here I would take the frontal shot on an elk. Most of us are deer hunters and have been taught to never take this shot, but if you look at elk anatomy there's a lot more room in the front to slip an arrow into the vitals. I still probably wouldnt take this shot on a deer, but it seems to work very well for elk.

Yeah I knew I'd be stirring the ethics pot by asking this question, but that video is awesome, especially for the kid having made it.

Dont be surprised if you dont get much traffic on this thread. This has been debated on here before and it just might be the deadest horse around.

No worries. I really just love that video. Maybe some others will as well.

I would and have, but only at point blank range like in this video. I also shoot a very heavy arrow which helps with the necessary penetration. Great video.

after all ive learned on here im not sure its ethical to take any shot ever on anything with any weapon under any circumstances anywhere ever...ever. im joining PETA

I think you are exaggerating a bit. Clearly it's ethical to take a quartering away shot when under 20 yards with a bow producing a minimum of 94.6 ft lbs of kinetic energy with an arrow mass of 500 grains to produce sufficient momentum to adequately penetrate the opposite shoulder of a shot taken only during a new moon phase after you have been shooting a bow enough years to Robin Hood arrows at 40 yards during each practice session, or at minimum touching...:)

In all seriousness, from what I've learned from this forum and being confident in my abilities, I would take the frontal shot.

funny thing is my bow hits harder than that with a heavier arrow. and the shots i take are still completely unethical. go figure

Here's a thread that I started after reading and watching a few things. I was also not for this shot and thought it was unethical, but after seeing everyone's responses to the thread and doing some research and studying, I will be adding this to my shot options if the conditions are right and I'm close enough.

I think it's interesting that some will say, "No way, that's unethical" and make it a blanket statement for all, but in your post, one guy basically says that ethics/morals in any given situation is a personal issue. I tend to agree with him.. My level of experience and expertise might indeed make it an unethical shot. But someone that can tack drive in a high stress situation will have little need to second guess himself, before or after the shot.

If I can tighten my groups even more with broad heads out to 30 or 40 yards, I think I would take that shot at 20-25 yards.
