Looking at the moon and looks like it might be tough.. 7-19th full moon will be the middle of the season.. any tips or tactics? Thinking of just grinding it out daily...hard to kill a elk sittin at camp or home..

I am still a new hunter, but that's my plan. I might have my girlfriend drop me off and just in reach a pickup location so I can cover ground. All depends how scouting this summer looks. Are you hunting east or west?

I’ve hunted the same area I grew up hunting. Elk numbers are lower but I know the land well. Up by Mt Adams. Gonna give it a few more years then my boy will be old enough to venture out of state..

This was found last year up the shoug river road.. somebody did some late night shooting.. my daughter and found it and reported it. She was upset at why someone would shoot it and only cut the back straps out of it and the head.. so could of been a nice bull for the area..

I hunt the Full Moon phases pretty much the same as without! Josh, when the Full Moon overlaps rut timing it is truly golden! This years dates is what dreams are made of! Calling can be off the charts! More bulls are called in & hit the dirt at that time than any other! Stay positive & use the Moon to your advantage!

Thanks guys! Don't let a Full Moon from the 8th to the end of the month (Sept) spook ya, it can be awesome times!

Ya, I just checked a bunch of past year's moon phases and realized that some of the best bugling action I had each season was within a day or two of the full moon for those years.

Great info Paul. Last year in Colorado we didn't have much luck hunting the full moon. It was probably other circumstances keeping the elk quiet.

Last year the Full Moon landed on Sept 24. The 5 days prior & 5 days after the bulls were sounding off pretty good. When I say they sounded off or bugled I don't mean they were bugling everywhere on their own, those days are rare on our OTC elk hunts. We fire them up with our own bugling whether they are silent or not! Once a response is received we head their way & basically call them in. We do this because we hunt mostly dark timber with tons of downfall & just flat out noisy conditions, there's no silent stalks in most of our areas, you MUST call them to you or have them call you to them. When they call us in we are vocal all the way to them so we sell ourselves as one of them, works pretty slick when executed right!

These Tactics are in the ElkNut Mobile App.
