Not many details out about Michigan 2027 Earn a second Buck License yet. Something more to try and understand what the rules will be. Getting hard to keep up with so many chnages. Like you can buy a Combo which in the LP good for 1 Buck and 1 Antlerless but if you go to the UP you can take a second Buck as the UP is not limited like the LP will be. Then add in the "Earn a Buck"? Will have to wait and see what that is all about.

I have a good friend within the Michigan DNR and his repetitive comment is that they can’t get hunters to shoot does regardless of incentives. It’s a culture of buck hunting but with pretty high deer densities and lopsided buck to doe ratios.

I believe a lack of access to the private lands that have the highest deer density is more of a factor than a culture of buck hunting. I’m not saying there aren’t hunters who won’t harvest doe, however, I’m sure there’s plenty of hunters that would shoot them if they had access to the land they reside on. The new rule changes won’t reduce the doe population where it’s necessary in my humble opinion.

Wisconsin and Ohio have similar land ownership patterns and they are harvesting 1.0 and 1.2 does per whereas Michigan is harvesting 0.8 does per buck per the National Deer Association.

Access for hunting is a pretty universal issue especially in much of the Midwest.

Yeah this doesn't seem like the solve to me. The farm I grew up hunting that is 250 acres south of Jackson has definitely seen an uptick in deer population but not as dramatic as I have heard around us. We also shoot 5-10 does a year so that helps. Neighbors do good work as well.
