I am intrigued by the Zeiss Dialyt - it is a unusually configured scope, that I can't help but find interesting. I like the price, and simplicity, and Zeiss, like Swarovski has not let me down. But, reviews of the scope are thin, and usually several years old. It appears to be non-ED glass, and that rubber eye cup looks ridiculous - I would probably own it right now if it had the twist down variety. I wear glasses, so eye relief is important to me, and I've seen some mixed reviews.
Here is my conundrum, I live in Florida and don't use a scope regularly. I go on one western hunt per year where a scope would be useful, so I have a hard time justifying buying a ATX, Diascope etc. (but of course want all the performance I can get). I will use it at the rifle range, so it will get some use, and if the scope I end up with is easily packable, I might bring it along a various vacations just for fun.
I am also intrigued by the Viper HD 65mm, which I can get for about the same price as the Dialyt, and almost pulled the trigger on demo ATX, but thought better of it. Unfortunately, there aren't any places convenient to me to test any of them, particularly side by side.
So, any thoughts on the Dialyt or alternatives? What should a guy do? Thanks, Joe
