Hi all,

I am looking at a new tent for myself and have come across tarptent, as it seem to get good reviews from the backpacking communities, but have wondered about hunting. It comes in at 2lbs, and seems like a good fit. Anyone use one that has any reviews?

This is the one i am looking at specifically:

Yes. They are good summer and early season tents. No experience with the Contrail, but I have a Rainshadow 2.

I use a Moment DW. Its very well put together and never let me down. Even when I got 20" of snow overnight on me. You will need to seam seal yourself, But I don't mind that at all.

I have no prroblem seem sealing at all, i usually do that on my tents anyways. I was just worried about the variety of weather we get in the northwest rockies and if it would hold up. Just the fact that it is so light that scares me. Any other reviews don't hurt as i think i will pull the trigger next week unless there are some scary reviews.

I have a Scarp 2. Been using it for 4 or 5 years now. Used it for 8 days north of the Brooks Range last Aug/Sep with no issues.

Thanks for the input i just wanted to get some hunters opinions on them, not rely on just the backpacking crowd.

Cheers,

I have used the Squall and the Rainbow 2....both are a great value for the money/weight/size. But I prefer the floorless tipi as its not much more for a much better space/weight IMO.

I have the older model "moment", & it will definitely hold up to wind rain & snow loads, when using the optional cross pole.

Just picked up the notch myself. Like the dual side entries and optional liner.

Happy Notch user here & seam sealed it myself. Love the bathtub floor & bug mesh for protection, and the dual entry vestibules are great for stacking gear under.
Got some extra reflective guyline, too, for staking out off the pole tops...

I am pleased with my notch ,seamsealed like everyone else it is not rocket science. I will use longer stakes next time and like KMD said, spare line for tying extra guys.
