Hey guys,
Recently decided to try a single pin housing for my Hogg Father. I have been shooting a 5 pin large guard housing but after reading the trick pin article I decided to try a one pin. I like the idea of an open sight window and always wanted to try a one pin.
Anyhow, bought the single pin housing and they only come in small (2") guard. My 3/16" peep is a little too big so my housing is no longer perfectly encircled in the peep. Thinking about trying a 5/32 peep to allow me to continue to have my dovetail mounted as far out as possible.
Any thoughts? Do you think the smaller size will affect light gathering during hunting so much so that it will be a huge drawback?

I shoot a tiny peep. 3/32" I know there are a million reasons to shoot a bigger peep and matching up the pin housing, yada yada. I've tried it and it doesnt work for me. I have some wierd eye condition where I see much more clearly when looking through a small hole. The eye doc showed me this years ago when he had me read a chart normally, and then had me read it again while peering through a small hole. Huge difference for me.

I don't shoot one that small. I have a 3/16" with a large guard on a Tommy Hogg. Only thing you will sacrifice with the smaller peep is low light shooting but that will be minimal.

I wish SH would make a large guard for the single pin housing. I think 3/16" is a great size and have always used that size. Seemed to fit the large guard SH housing perfectly with the dovetail extended. I may just have to see how a 5/32 performs in low light.

Oh, and I am an FNG to this site so I guess an intro may be required?
Short story goes that my wife and I moved to John Day OR five years ago for work. We both work in the fisheries (biologists) field.
Love elk and mule deer bowhunting. Killed my largest mule of my life this fall with my bow. Gross scores 175-1/2" and nets 173-1/4".
Two young daughters (2 and 4 months) and two GSP's. Love to chukar hunt. Love the outdoors, yada yada.....I've been active on a few other forums but this one is a recent discovery.
Now, back to peep sights.......
