Any of you fellas dealing with Dupuytrens (Vikings disease)?

Curious if any of you youngsters have had Dupuytrens, or a Dupuytren's contracture, and what was your experience?

It is also known as Vikings disease because it is most common in those with northern European ancestry.

For those unaware (count your blessings), it is hyper collagen formation in the palm that visually looks like new tendons forming and leads to bent fingers curling toward the palm and it makes the hand really tight as it progresses. I've had one contracture treated (with the collagenase injection) in my left hand, and waiting for it to progress a bit more on two other fingers to get zapped again.

Just so very grateful it is not as bad in my right (dominant) hand.

I have it in my left hand. Luckily not that bad yet, but it sucks. I have started trading for smaller pistol calibers to irritate it less. Saw a couple specialists and they basically said to suck it up until you can't put your hand in your pocket. Once you start messing with it, it starts to go to different areas of the body and gets worse. My brother has it way, way worse than me

The collagenase injection has allowed me to stretch out my pinky finger again. My hand surgeon told me to not wait until it gets too bad, and I'll go as soon as the contracture gets about 30%.

I haven't tried the NA (Needle Aponeurotomy) yet where they cut the cords with a very fine needle. Definitely not interested in the surgery.

I hadn't heard that messing with it causes it to spread to other areas of the body, and not sure physiologically how that would happen.

I agree 1000% to not over work our hands and not grip things real tight...that reduces aggravating that palmar fascia.

I have been told that it will travel to your feet and even genitals (peyronie's). My brother has it in hands and feet. My specialist said it will explode with surgery. Meanwhile, although embarrassing for a strong guy, I now sometimes have to ask my wife to open jars for me Anyone need a 44 mag Super Blackhawk?-LOL

My grandpa had it real bad in his left hand. Got to the point where he finally got fed up with going in to get his pinky released so many times, he finally just got it amputated and no more locking up.

I’m 34 and I’ve Got a little knot in my left hand that formed probably 6-7 years ago. My doc said could definitely be it, but shouldn’t have it so early. I have absolutely zero issues with it so maybe it’s just some random knot, but with my gramps having it, I suspect I’ll have issues in the future with it.

My thoughts are that between working out and my job, if I keep using my hands as I already do, maybe I’ll be able to delay or minimize the effects of it, but we’ll see

Yeah, sometimes those bumps or nodules begin forming the cords which may lead to contractures (bent fingers, curved in palm). Really hoping for you it doesn't.

Ledderhose disease it what it called happens in the plantar fascia (feet). I started getting small ones in my feet in my 20s.

It is definitely aggravating, and I can understand your Gramp's reasoning in a severe case.

I never had that but have had to have both wrists taken care of because of carpel tunnel. Another painful experience in life.
