Any CO state park rangers or similar in the house?

Hi guys, I found this website a week ago and am glued to it. I live in NC with dreams of heading west.

Can any CO rangers send me a PM? I have some questions (for my wife's job) about law enforcement duties for rangers in CO, reciprocity for a commissioned NC ranger, current ranger job market in CO, etc. I have good job opps in Denver area but need to make sure my wife could orchestrate the switch since LEOs are so state dependent....

THANKS! And can't wait to read more about y'alls adventure hunts (which you probably just call "hunting" but to us easterners it's mind blowing).

You can find most of your answers on USAjobs.gov.

That's federal....I'm interested in state level and the two are worlds apart. Some stuff is available online, but if I've learned anything from the NC State Parks, it's that just chatting with someone in the system will yield a wealth more knowledge than the web. Figured it was worth a shot posting up here. Now I'll go back to lurking....

Last time I was looking at state of CO jobs, many required you to be a resident of CO. Something to keep in mind when you start your search. sorry I can't be of more help on the specifics of the state park ranger duties. On the plus side, there are lots of state parks in CO, so the job ops will be there.

I would call up the State Parks and talk to whoever does their hiring for the LEO positions.

LEO status is usually recognized by most states, but you end up having to do a shortened equivalency class or take a waiver exam of some sort. They usually don't/can't grant commission because you are commissioned in a another state without the waiver/equivalency. I've never heard of it being a difficult process.

The one problem I could see you running into might be the availability of positions in the Denver area. Most state agencies like that offer up positions for internal transfer first, then fill the ones that don't get transfers. That's where talking to the hiring authority would be worth it's weight in gold.

That's a good call Jason. I'll try to get the Mrs. to do that. I know you have to be commissioned for 3 years in your home state before taking the CO equivalency exam. So we have another 1 year for that....

I set up job alerts with CO Parks and Wildlife just to start getting a handle on how often things are posted and learning the lay of the job land out there. Figured Denver might be tough, most bigger cities are because if you're married, the spouse needs to work somewhere. Would love to shack up at a state park way out in the hills but that just isn't in the cards.

Thanks for the help all.

Also besides state park rangers there are county owned open space and mountain parks that have rangers all along the front range and the CPW conservation officers (game wardens).
