Anyone have experience comparing the RRS Anvil-30 and PT Scout combo against the RRS BH-40 SCR? (for glassing and shooting). I currently have the Anvil 30/Scout setup (use the Scout when glassing, remove to use the Anvil to shoot), wondering if the BH-40 is worth the approximate half pound in weight savings and the ability to cut down on one piece of equipment while retaining most of the functionality....

Also - I have a RRS Ascend 14L tripod - worth upgrading to an inverted leg tripod?

Appreciate the responses!

I have gone back and forth with these exact setups except the small tricer pan head clamped instead of the scout, and the leofoto anvil knockoff. Same tripod.

The anvil is a little better for shooting than the BH40 but honestly not that much IMO. At least for hunting purposes. Both work great.

The small pan head is a little better for glassing than the BH40 with binos..but I dislike the extra height and the BH40 handles heavy optics much better that the little pan heads IMO.

My current setup which is working great so far is the ascend tripod with an extra tripod stem using only the short section. I put a tricer BP head on one which is amazing for glassing, and the Leofoto anvil knockoff (a bit lighter) on the other stem. For me tripod shooting comes into play only when I have plenty of time to set up the shot (otherwise there’s other positions that are much faster for me). Pulling out the head/stem from my pack and setting up is pretty quick about like pulling out a bipod and attaching it to the gun. Tripled on pigs at 200 yards last weekend with that setup.

I’m super picky about glassing heads otherwise just the BH40 setup works well for both. I just don’t love glassing with a ball head.
