I bought this Knight Vision Freedom in 2023 and prior to knowing anything about the rokstock or really even putting much thought to what might make a stock better, identified that the trigger reach was about 3/4 of a mile long.
I used to do some fiberglass work (long time ago) and after the hunt I put some Smooth-On Epoxy Foam on the grip to shorten the trigger reach. Last year I drew the NM Ibex muzzleloader tag and decided I needed to finish the project. Since shooting a rokstock I realized that I liked the bottom of the stock to be flat so I figured I'd flatten that out too.

Originally I'd added some material to the grip to shorten the trigger reach. This pic is halfway through adding "reinforcement".

First pass filling in the rest of it. I stopped short of the sling stud that was back there.

This stuff sands easily so I just made a point to get the material needed on there and then sanded it later rather than focusing on getting it shaped well to start with.

Not bad after a little sanding

A few more light coats and messing with the grip. At one point I built it way up on the right but ultimately sanded it down and gave a small palm swell.
Pre-sanding.

I used a bondo glass/resin kit from amazon. I didn't know how well the resin would stick to the stock so I made sure to wrap the glass all the way back onto itself and throw an extra wrap around the grip.

Rattle cans from the local hardware store then a matte clear over it.

Not my favorite but it came out okay

My target for the few months leading up. Brown packing tape worked perfect to cover holes and keep shooting. Eventually I painted the stripe the right way too...

I shot it to 300 but would have really liked to get a shot inside of 200 or so. I had a BIG billy at 290 with no shot opportunity on the first day which made me second guess not buying an arrowhead or something before the hunt or figuring out how to get a revic site on this... I had the archery tag in 2019 and at the time these goats were everywhere. I kind of ignored the doom/gloom around the hunt leading up to it but the people who are down on the hunt are unfortunately right. I saw a few ibex most days, but ultimately ate the tag. Not fun for a $1,600 tag that is ~1:900 draw odds, but I'm still glad I had the opportunity as most never get the chance to do this hunt.

Did you do anything to the factory stock to get the epoxy foam to adhere?

Just sanded it. I’m not sure what material it is but rough sanding (60-80) left some “hairs” so I went to 100 or so before adhering it. The grip had no reinforcement and it seemed pretty sturdy.

I shot it without glass for a few months with no issues but figured before hunting I’d glass it and make sure it was solid

Going to give this a whirl over the next few weeks. Will use these outlines for stencils to help cut and shape going forward.View attachment 867050
Nice!!

This is the product I used.

At a glance, that stock looks more like plastic whereas mine is likely some sort of rubberized fiberglass composite I think.

If that's the case you should be able to scuff it up pretty good without having the issues I did.

Hope it goes well!

Thanks for sending that over! I'll get some ordered.

Ya it's definitely some type plastic, shouldn't be too hard to cut and sand. Removing that cheek pad will be interesting. Thinking about adding a carbon arrow shaft or two on the top for added support.

The tricky parts will be dealing with and maintaining the cutout on the bottom side that gives access to the butt stock screw, and then making new anchor points for moving the recoil pad up.
