I have a vortex razor 11-33x50 angled. Not as much magnification as some lower tier scopes but definitely better glass.

Leaning towards the Athlon Ares with cameraland currently. Is there anything else new or used under $1,000 that beats it?

IMO, no... not for the price. There are some comparison test videos online.
Mine serves me well. If I lost it, I would buy another.
The right size for my type of hunting. Not too heavy or big, good glass, functional.
