Does anyone run their trailcams all year round? Has it been a benefit or was it completely unnecessary?

Yes, I keep 12 out year round.
Mine are on private land and rancher and his family really like viewing.
Don't know if it is necessary, but I have done it for last four or five years.

How well do batteries last during the winter?

I keep some out year round. I only use lithium ion batteries. They last way longer than alkaline.

Lithium ion much preferred.
Alkaline just do not do well in periods of colder weather.
Some years back, I used alkaline and it seems I also had problems with some leaking and ruining cams.

I've got 4 out around 10k this winter.
Just ran out of time to get them. Be interesting to see what I find in another month or so.

I use cams that get 12+ months battery life, so if its an area i plan to have a cam up the following year, no reason to take em down. Always interesting to see when antlers drop, when animals abandon the area due to winter conditions, and get some predator pics

I have no desire to keep them out past hunting season. Lithium batteries have proven to be a waste of money for me. I get the same performance out of regular batteries at a much cheaper cost.

Depending on camera and weather, I get around 4 to 6 months battery life on alkalines.
Problem wiith alkalines is on occasion you will get a leaker and it pretty much kills the camera if left in too long.
I try to stay with Duracell, Energizer, or Rayovac batteries.
May try some rechargables this year to see how they do.

I run cameras right after draw results are out until the end of hunting season. Hate to leave a cam halfway across the state and have to go get it if I don’t get drawn out the next year or draw a different unit.
