Need to get a new one. Id prefer something high quality that can be handed down a generation or two.

Nomar
RGD
Alps
Rokman
Yukon Outfitters

Nomar, Rokman and Yukon Outfitters have made the short list. Any feedback, comments, experiences with them is greatly appreciated

Their gear is considered top of the line for white water rafting. Can’t vouch for them personally

I and a few buddies have Nomar cases. Its a great no frills option that holds up well. Another consideration is how bulky of a case you want and do extra features appeal to you.

Hows the padding in the Nomar?

Hows the padding in the Nomar?
It has a rougher nylon outer material and a soft faced fleece type texture inside. It's a dense foam almost like a neoprene feeling when your squeeze it. I think it's a good blend of being thin but substantial enough that I'm not worried when tossing it around. With the padding fully Inserted there is 10in of material to fold and snap closed.

Ended up going Nomar.
I felt the best bang for the buck. It's solid. Padding inside is great.
Thanks for the help!!

That's my buddy's new 307 Weatherby with a 3-15 44m VX5 HD as a reference

Did you test out any of the other bags by any chance? I'm in a similar boat and have been considering NOMAR

Buddy has a Yukon Outfitters. Well built. Solid.
Rokman was overpriced in my opinion.
Nomar fit the bill and a great price point.

All are made well and are waterproof.

Deciding factor for me was if by chance it came off a raft, I didn't wanna be looking for a camo or grey case. I wanted bright and ugly in color.

I've got the same philosophy about that, not trying to make that kind of situation any more stressful. Looking to get one for any future rafting but also paddling out to duck blinds or marshlands.

I have had the rock man for over a year and it has done its job just wish it had a little more padding

I’ve had a nomar for several years. No complaints at all. I have another one without padding that I got at a shop in Sitka while I was down for a trip a few years ago. It has its place too but isn’t padded. I’ve thought I could use an old foam sleeping pad to make a padded insert for it but never did.

we ve been using nomar for rifles and shotguns on our canoe and fly out trips and they all survive. the padding is great and of course i tried: it is floating but i added a dog lifejacket as i ve seen firearms taking the plunge into some lakes in quebec so not taking a chance.

a note the ones lost were not in a nomar soft case ...

I have a Nomar as well. The ONLY complaint I have is the “off the shelf” case can be difficult to squeeze a rifle down that has a large tactical style scope on it (I.e a Nightforce NX8/ATCAR with a 50mm objective). I made it work. They do however offer a custom option where they will cut it and build it to your specs. Beyond that, it’s an amazing case at a great price point.
