Alaska brown bear season….updated as season progresses

Sat the bait for a few hours with the wife tonight hoping for the big one who stuck around. He’s well over 9’ with a crappy hide but I’m more interested in his skull and claws.
Well…he came in at midnight, which happened to be the one moment the wind died down and shifted…just before he got to the bait he winded us and bolted….we ended our four hour sit and saw 5 browns and 6 black bears. Jumped in the super cub and went home…so close….

Amazing. Never thought about hunting brown bear in July. I’m curious…from the photo the hide and the skull look much better on the RH/rear bear to me.

The smaller sows usually have better hair longer. There was another boar on camera that was a solid bear and his hair was still good too. But skull wise on the two bears in the pic, the one on the left is a bigggt bear. His skull is probably 27” and the bear laying down is probably a 22” skull, maybe 23”.

Took the wife and my stepson out for his first ever attempt at hunting anything. He had been practicing with the .243 and decided shooting a bear he would like to try. We sat for a few hours and had three small
Brown bears come in before this black bear did. He made an epic shot at 70 yards and anchored it right on the bait pile. No tracking is my favorite.
We are in the last few days of working the baits and season will be a wrap!

Well guys that’s a wrap on spring 2025. Ended up with 10 brown bears dead, 2 missed, 10 black bears. (4 of the brown bears were over 9’ with multiple others on camera we did not get a shot at) Over 200 bags of dog food fed. 100 plus hours of flying and I’m not going to figure out how many gallons of gas. Over a thousand I know that…
Thanks for all the clients who took the step of faith and send a check to a stranger in Alaska in the hopes of a great adventure!! The investment in my family and business is much appreciated.
