Alaknak vs Tipi

Over the last couple years we have been doing alot more moving throughout the hunt to either find game or stay on game. We have two wall tents now. I am thinking of getting something that is lighter and quicker to setup and take down until we get in an area where we will be long enough to setup the wall tents.
I have been looking at either the alaknak 12x12 the cabelas outfitter 10x10 or a few different Tipi options. I would like to have enough room for 2-3 people with gear and have a stove jack in case its needed.

I thought Tipi would be the bees knees however I have two growing girls and my oldest will soon be going on some trips in the fall such as a few northern minnesota hunts and an out west where we will use the tent for this as well.

Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 12X12 Alaknak that I use if I have buddies hunting with me and we want a plush base camp (rare). I can set it up by myself in about 20 minutes, but I am not rushing. Faster with 2-3 people. Tee Pees are much lighter, but I cannot comment on the set up for a large one. My sawtooth only takes less than 10 minutes total for me to set up.

Assuming you will still be camped near the vehicle, the Alaknak or the Cabela's Outfitter would be a good choice. The 12X12 Alaknak should be fairly quick and easy to set up and take down. I had the 12X20 for a few years and it worked well, it just had some permanent vents in the top that made it too 'breezy' and cold when the temps got really cold. I have a Cabela's Instinct Outfitter tent (semi dome) now that is solid. This tent hold heat really well, so a very small stove would be plenty. It's fairly easy to set up and take down too. I have read where some people have broken poles for this tent, and replacements are not so easy to find. I have had mine in some winds in the range of 40-60 mph and it held up great. I've never used a tipi, so can't really comment on that.

Don’t you hate it when you ask about two specific products and someone suggests a third.... :)

We really like our Kodiak Canvas tents. They setup in about ten minutes, plenty of room for 2-3 people. Very waterproof, great warranty, and pretty reasonably priced. I think my hunting group now has three of them, we look like a company advertisement.

How is later in the season? Do you use a propane heater?

We use a little buddy propane heater. On low it is plenty warm. Overnight, we just leave the pilot light on and that takes the edge off. It is pretty easy to put a stove jack in, but one of my hunting partners has a phobia of starting a forest fire... I think I am going to buy a NuWay propane heater. All the benefits of LPG, without introducing moisture into the tent since it is vented outside.

My uncle bought the liner with his 12 man kifaru and he said that it virtually eliminates the condensation issues - this was in Alaska during sept that he has tested it.
I really don't like a floor in my tents - wall or tipi. Just something that you have to clean. I bring a piece of old indoor outdoor carpet about 2' x 18" for each person. Works fine for me. My uncle always puts down a noisy tarp that ends up needing cleaned..... why?
I have had water get inside the tipi and had to put a small trench around the outside of part of it to get the water to "flow" around the tipi. Usually it is not a problem.
