Can anyone recommend how to construct an indoor pellet gun trap with target. I am looking for a cheap way to be able to shoot my air rifle indoors and be able to trap the pellets.. thank you

I bet a cardboard box would work fine. Put the target on the front and hang a cheap "welcome" mat at the back.

Pellets go through the front, hit the mat and stay in the box.

We had a similar setup in my grandpa's basement when I was a kid.

I like that welcome that idea

Mine was for BBs, not pellets, but I’ve used the card board box idea several times, we usually shoot in the garage only in the winter so I just throw it out in the summer and build a new one.

I just put a couple layers of cardboard on the back side of the box, put some crumpled newspaper in the box and then tape it shut and start shooting.

I've done a few by putting a slanted piece of board in a box behind the target, fleece rags in the bottom. Never had a problem with ricochet.

Have made several. I used plywood to give the box a hard stop on all sides but the entry. Couple inches of newspapers, magazines, etc and then it’s ready. Can also squish TP rolls to pack in tight. Probably my fav was when I put my utility trailer in the garage and set the bb/pellet trap in it.

I built a 5 sided box about as deep as electricians sealing putty is long with slots so the sixth side is a regular wood clipboard that slides down in the slots and holds the target. The pellets are stopped by the putty. You never wear it out. At one time about 10 years ago this design was popular on air gun channels, might still be. Heavy, but works great.

I shoot pcps, one 25cal @60fpe. The best pellet trap to make is you get a plastic tote of good construction, fill it with rubber mulch. I cut a rectangle in the lid for my target size and duct taped in a sacrificial cardboard backer that keeps the mulch in, and mounted a clip board clip to it to hold the target. Silent pellet trap and I'd bet you could shoot 22lr or CF pistol cartridges in it without issue. I can send pictures if needed.

Years ago I did the electrical box and duct seal. worked fine but you eventually create channels and hit the back housing.

My 177 springers will punch through a piece of 3/4" at 10 feet....if you get a thin spot, fix it right away.
