I’ve heard that the fourth annuli often presents with a nearby false annuli as this is the first year rams are sexually active. The logic is that they exhaust themselves during the rut (false annuli), then continue to grow additional horn before the burdensome winter leads to the next annuli. Hence, “rut rings”.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

“3” and “6” are most likely false annuli. You can tell by how close they are to the true annuli, as well as the lack of angle change on the underside of the horn.
This is how I saw it as well. 6 I think is clearly a false annuli, 3 most likely as well. I had 10+ or 11+ with the extra year hard to define closest to skull. I am certainly no expert so take it with a table spoon of salt.

The tree were 3 other rams with him that I saw when i shot (suppressed). 2 were next to him and one out of sights. and they stayed around for what seems like 15-20 min. Then they disappeared and promptly reappeared in group of 7 unfortunately I didn’t get that picture.
my ram had super tight & narrow curl but most mass. But one other ram had what seemed like good lengths, super open wide curl but not the same mass. He was also the one that was not in the open when I shot mine so I couldn’t really compare and I didn’t want to let opportunity slip in case they made us at only 200y
